Applicants will be asked to rank their preferences. They will also be asked whether other stations will be acceptable, if their first choice is not available. Assignments will be made by the selection committee, based on applicant preferences, as well as relevant background and skills.
This program provides a unique opportunity for students to conduct supervised fieldwork in multi-disciplinary teams to appreciate the complexity and interconnection of real world community engagement, and the necessity of learning to communicate and collaborate across knowledges.
The summer internship will be 8.5 weeks in duration (June 29-August 18) students will spend 3 full days each week, sometimes more, rotating between the Community Station site and the Blum workshop space on the UCSD campus.
Transportation in Tijuana will be provided. Transportation in San Diego is the responsibility of the students. (In our experience, students have found innovative solutions together).
Students working in Tijuana must have a valid passport, and any relevant visas, enabling them to cross the US-Mexico border.
Participating students will receive a stipend of $1,500 per month from the UCSD / BLUM Initiative for the two months of summer participation, for a total of $3000.
Interns may earn summer course credit if they wish - in SSI or SSII or both.
Successful interns will be expected to participate in occasional meetings, convenings and public presentations during the 2016-7 academic year.
